Journey of faith

AP
About 2.5 million Muslim pilgrims are expected togather around Kaaba in Saudi Arabia during this year's hajj ceremonies.

Among the offenses counted against Saddam Hussein by a generation of Iraqi Muslims: He closed off the sacred pilgrimage known as hajj. This year, as many as 30,000 Iraqis of all ages and political stripes are expected to join 2.5 million Muslins from around the world for hajj ceremonies that start next week. While the journey has profound spiritual significance, it's also physically taxing, especially for older Muslims. Many, like Shakar Mirza of Carrollton, have to cross half a world just to get to Mecca.
