IslamiCity > Travel > 2004 Program to Uzbekistan MEALS

MEALS & FOOD:

The program fees include daily halal meals. Naturally, we will avoid all haram items at all times. By virtue of Islamic faith and culture, all slaughtering is done Islamic way in all of Uzbekistan.

Each region and sometimes even within a city, one can experience unique variations of the same dish. Click here to watch a typical meal experience ... The Big Meal Deal!

Some popular mouth-watering items include:

  • Pelav Rice
  • Whole Baked Goat
  • Oven Baked Bread (Non)
  • Kovurma Palov Sarimsokli Palov
  • Bukhoro Pilaff with Raisins
  • Sofakli Palov - Samarqand Pilaff
  • Kovatok Palov - Pilaff with Stuffed Grape Leaves
  • Tovukli Palov - Pilaff with Chicken
  • Pilaff with Garlic Mayizli Palov

In some instances, we will arrange with local Muslims to prepare a traditional meal. Such dinners will be enjoyed in a traditional setting with cross-legged sit-down in living quarters, known in Uzbek as Diwan-Khana ... an unforgettable experience that no restaurant can offer!

All Uzbek bread is known as Non in Uzbek language. It is generally flat, varies in sizes with different baking techniques. Some popular kinds of the flat Nons are ... Sutli Non, Obi Non and Jizzali Non. Other popular Nons that are not plain flat but equally popular are ...   Kunjutli va sedanli (Flat bread with sesame and poppy seeds), Piyozli Non (Flat bread with onions), and Shirmoi Non (Chickpea and anise). Just the bread in itself is a meal many a times. One can find people of all ages chowing down bread by itself all the time. Fresh tandoor bread is baked everywhere, around the corner, restaurants, exclusive bread bakeries, etc.
