These Shiites are closer in the practice of Passion of Hussain show to the Catholics Passion of Christ processions.
According to their creed shedding their blood for the grief of Hussain's death will absolve them from all sins, better than going to Hajj. Once they get some education and maturity then they don't do it with that much ferocity.
