He will open the door for others.

Angela, as long as we have this elitist political system nothing will happen. This sytem of governance has gone long past its use-by date. It needs a serious upgrade.

Let's say, when you were fighting your War of Independence, someone at the Palace of Westminster wrote a letter to a General, somewhere in the US. This letter reached its destination in 11 months - after that front had been lost and the addressee had died.

In that day, it was okay for a Parliament to sit (or, even, sleep) for the length of five years!

Today, I write you a letter, from this little out of reach place in Spain. I don't have to put it in an envelop, walk to the post office, lick a few stamps, arrange the stamps on the evelop and drop it in some box.

Today, my letter reaches your mailbox in how many minutes?

Today, a house sitting for even a month holds the capability of doing much greater damage to its own people and, definitely, to the rest of the world.

Even in a Public Limited company, if the directors make one mistake too many and that too with peoples' money, not with their lives, an Extra Ordinary General Meeting is called and, normally, it sends the the board packing.

Here, we have whole cabals, mandated to paly with our lives with effects running across generations into our future.

Nothing will ever make any difference unless we have a broad-based system, which is actually powered by people, almost, like short term juries, we will always remain at the mercy of the "Crown". (or, the Clowns, picked by our corporatocracy for their limited agenda).

The existing system doesn't allow all sections of the society participating in governance. How many Presidents have we had who couldn't afford multi-million dollar campaign budgets?

And he “has since denounced Farrakhan” reminds me of David Duke, UberNazi and formerly known as “The Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan,” who denounced the Neo-Nazis when he started running for political office in Louisiana.

Malcolm X was Nation of Islam and then renounced its tenants.  People can change.  Often people don't know until they start to learn more about Islam. But if your first contact is with people from the Nation of Islam you won't know.

I'd love to see him grow a long beard and show up for work the first day.

Whisper,

You have lost so much hope.  The attitude that nothing will ever change because of those in power are corrupt is what gives them power.

How many Presidents have we had who couldn't afford multi-million dollar campaign budgets?

This is sad, but also, how many President's have we had who were not highly educated?  Education often equals income and achievement.  But, look at the legacy of our leaders.  This country was founded by educated philosophers like Jefferson, Washington and Franklin.

The key to change is education.  Encouraging young Muslims to get degrees and get involved.  There are wealthy Muslims.  Doctors, Attorney's and others.

Come on Angela, who cares whether a Moslem, real or feined makes
his way to an actual seat in Congress?

What we need are WOMEN in those seats and behaving like WOMEN,
and not like the men who have molded them in their likeness for so
many centuries.

How many Women presidents do you think would actively campaign
to send off their sons to die ...? Only if they were transformed (like
Maggie Thatcher) into some kind of honorary man, with a man's
values (power over everything that moves, particularly if it is
physically weaker than they i.e women) would they adopt the same
values as the current male dominated society we have constructed
for ourselves.

Maggie Thatcher announced: "there is no such thing as society" and
she promptly went on to prove herself right. How? By removing
women from their natural role which is at the centre of society, and
civilization, and placing her in the workplace.

Men should renounce positions of power and admit they've made a
pigs ear of it, and let us get on with reestablishing woman's rightfull
place in society: as leaders in a compassionate and non violent
society.

Opening doors is fine and dandy, but they get slammed in your face
quite a lot too. You mentioned Martin Luther King and how he
opened doors, but just where have those open doors taken those
who tried to follow him? How many years since his assasination, and
Blacks are STILL fighting the same fight in American society.

Duende,

It has taken women centuries to change their place in the Western world.  Its strange that people think that things will change so quickly for any other group.  Its sick, I know.  Its wrong, I know.  But unfortunately change is not something that happens overnight.

You're right, we do need more women in politics.  But, unless she's a devoted "career" woman, she'll never make it in politics.  Devoted Mothers don't get to be President.

We need a devoted Mother to run for office.  We need more Mom's in politics.

But, ask twenty people if they would vote for a stay at home mom, or a harvard graduate with a Law Degree and see what they say.
