Assalamalecum WA rehmatullahi WA barakhatahu.It is a myth in society that only doctors and engineers are good professionals.but Allah says in Surah Al Fussilat ch 41 v 33-the best among U is one who invites people to Allah.from this verse it means Da'ee is the best in the sight of Allah.Allahfiz

That not profession, it is life activity where only small number are on payroll.

As far as a you do Daawa without getting paid you are on the right path. Once you get paid for it then it's a profession

Or, do you mean making a living through dawah is not right?

No,I mean to say that who is higher in the rank of Allah,a doctor,engineer or A Da'aee.obviously a Da,aee because he will invite people towards Allah.there is a common misconception that doctor is the best profession,for eg if a da,aee recites Surah Al Maidah ch 5 v 32 I.e if U save innocent as if U will save the whole humanity to a child because children are best students as they don't have ego,so a child may think of becoming a doctor.there are several Islamic organizations in which office workers take out time and do dawaah on large scale,and these organizations willingly give them some amount which is not at all wrong,best example is Islamic research foundation.i myself is a medical student and i m doing dawaah according to my capacity.Allahfiz.
