A significant development. A Lee Perry production, "Soul Rebel" features Aston and Carlton Barrett, formerly with The Hippy Boys, the Perry house band that pre-dated The Upsetters, on bass and drums. Together this team forged The Wailers' sound - crisp, militant, liltingly poetic, on the edge - that was to become their international trademark. Immediately these Perry-produced songs were released, they became the favourite tunes at every dance on the island. At last: Wailers Rule. Playing at such clubs as The Glass Bucket at Crossroads, The Silver Slipper on Forest Roads, the Prime Time, The VIP Club, and the Sombrero, The Wailers made their first steps from Trench Town to uptown with this song.
