ISNA Condemns Attacks on Fort Hood Soldiers and Expresses Condolences to the Victims and Their Families

(Washington, DC – November 05, 2009) The Islamic Society of North America condemns in the strongest terms the attack on soldiers at Fort Hood, resulting in the murder of at least a dozen soldiers and the wounding of many others. We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families.

Although many details of the shooting are unknown at this time, it appears that the attack was led by a career soldier, Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The soldier who led this attack was either mentally unstable, or was motivated by a perverted ideology for which there can be no justification.

ISNA is proud of the many Muslim men and women who serve loyally in the United States military. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by all US soldiers, who represent the religious, racial and ethnic diversity of America, to defend the Constitution and our national security. ISNA, a faith endorser of US Muslim military chaplains, is proud of the service they provide, offering comfort and support to people of all faiths and beliefs. Just today, ISNA's chaplain endorser, Dr. Louay Safi, conducted a workshop at the US army base in Fort Bliss, Texas.

ISNA will be holding a press conference with national Muslim leaders to address this incident tomorrow morning. Time and location will be announced later tonight.

I think we need to get a better perspective on this. I recently posted on another thread that as humans we ultimately take the decision on whether to join the forces..knowing that we might have to fight.
Pres Obama in his speech yesterday added that young men and women know they might have to fight and perhaps give their life.

Primarily you are an active soldier, any other specialist qualification you hold is an extra..and this Malik Nidal Hasan would have known that.

There is nothing wrong in fighting for your country of birth if you are a muslim. Again I recently posted on another thread that many muslims fought in the 1st and 2nd world war by choice.It does not mean you are disloyal to your religion. I posed a question yesterday..should you obey the laws of your country...the answers came back as yes, as muslims we should. I feel that this can apply in this instance.

So...if Malik Nidal Hasan was of sound mind then there was nothing to prevent him from being deployed.. ok,he thought he would be based in a hospital, nothing to say where that hospital would be.

So we need to ponder
1/ was he of sound mind when this occurred ir was this planned.
2/ how true are the claims that he was hounded by fellow soldiers for his faith?
3/ where is Pres Obama right now? Surely he should be at Fort Hood?
4/ Why was Bro Hasan not permitted to buy his way out?
5/ Why did he join up before 9/11 anyway as according to his cousin being sent to fight was his worst fear.

There will be much speculation over the next days/weeks.
My thoughts are with his family at this time. It will not be easy for them. I hope we can all consider them as we discuss this.

Salams Martha,I also posted a topic about this event.sorry brother Semar.May Allah have Mercy on our brother.Although Im against Muslims fighting against other Muslims especially if one is fighting to protect Islam and the other is fighting against it.(call it what you want)Of course this would have mental effects on someone if they have any Iman or Taqwa.(M/O)

Yes I can see it would have mental effects on him .
But that also applies to Christians fighting CHristians too. That's why we shouldnt mix war and religion. Almost impossible I know

Salams Martha.You say that this also applies to Christians fighting Christians.Im not talking about them to complicated.In Surah 49 ayah 8:If two parties among the believers fall into a fight,make peace between them.Then if either of them transgresses against the other,fight the transgressors until they returns to the commands of Allah.Then,if they return,make peace between them with justice and be fair;for Allah loves those who are fair and just.Tell me what does the bible say about the Christians?please inlighten me Martha.We should'nt mix war with religion you say (in some cases true) although (religion)is our way of life in accordance to Allahs Revelation I think it is ok to fight in order to live righteous

Like you say brother, it is complicated.
But life is not just about muslims, sorry to say. CHristians are also humans, and not all want to fight.
The bible says not to fight. Jesus said to love everyone, not just those we want to. The Qur'an tells us to settle our differences.

To fight in order to live righteously does not necessarily mean we fight by the sword. If it is not right to fight a fellow muslim it does not mean it gives us automatic right to fight a non-muslim.
If I have a grievance with a non-muslim I am hardly likely to fight him because he doesnt follow my chosen religion.
Wars are about money and land...seldom about religion.

Life is an ongoing fight within ourselves. I shall detest the day we fight by the sword in force because that will be about religion only and we should not force others to believe in Islam. Throughout history this has often been the case..( I refer to all religions in this instance)but then religion and gain of land was then the same thing. It doesnt apply now.

The ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is NOT about religion is it.
