Dear friends,
I recently read somewhere that masterbation is forbidden in islam, is this true? as I thought anything regarding sex done in the privacy of your own bedroom was ok?! also is this rule applicable to women aswell? Is this quoted in the Quran or hadith?

Regarding the second part of your question, it is true that unlike other religions, Islam does not frown upon/shun sex as dirty - however, Allah does set certain limits. So one should not think that 'anything done in the privacy of the bedroom' is okay. Only Halal acts are permitted b/w husband and wife.
And anything sexual that is forbidden to Men, is equally forbidden to women.
