Wadood is from the verb wadda/Yuwaddu , ending in double dal. وَدَّ يُوَدُّ

Its a different word. Wadood is on Faool pattern which means favorably disposed, attached, devoted, fond, friendly.

Its a different root.

I dont know the story if hadith, but I recal in Az aukhruf, verses 16-17. It says that they attribute daughters to Allah, and when the news of the birth of a daughter is given to them their faces are darkened with grief.

Since it is mentioned in the quran that they grieve at the birth of daughters, and also that the female infant will be asked for what crime she was buried -there seems to be a link.

I dont speak arabic, but do understand some of the Quran as I have taken courses in traditional arabic.

Mau'udatu is from root verb wa'da/yuwidu which means to bury alive. If the word ends in a ta marbutah, the closed ta which you see in the end of al mau'udatu then the word is feminine.
The Hans-Wher dictionay says the ha(or the ta marbutah) is for a new born girl.

I am just wondering if the word wa'da / yuwidu has any connection with the word love, which is where Allah's title Wadood originated. If it is than it is understandable that an infant is loveable creature. I understand the Ta marbutoh as the feminine form, therefore in this verse it means an infant girl.

But we have been brainwashed with the story that the Quraish in the pre Islam era they did buried their infant daughters alive out of shame, I don't know where this story came from, maybe from a hadith but I never heard from anyone that ever heard the source too. Because at this moment the translation and the story of burying infant is closely connected.

I wish those Arabic speaking members can throw in their two cents. But it's all about do's and don'ts.

Oh God, that should be Chapter 81, not 82. No wonder no one has help me yet.
