SUMMARY:
The program consists of a 14-day/13-night education and fun tour of Muslim
Uzbekistan. Participants must join the group at the designated hotel in
Tashkent by Tuesday, July 15, 2004.
This unique tour
operates completely in an Islamic environment and specializes in Muslim culture
& history in Uzbekistan. The historic Muslim sites and monuments covered in
this tour are beyond those covered by typical tour operators. Interaction with
indigenous
Muslims,
religious
leaders, scholars and professionals provides an
experience that is not offered elsewhere.
Islam in Uzbekistan dates back to the days of
the Caliphate of Uthman ibn Affan, the third Caliph of Islam. Many Muslims passed
through Uzbekistan for trade and helped the indigenous people discover Islam.
Uzbekistan is an integral part of the famous Silk Route. Trading is found to be
in the very blood of Uzbeks and is obvious and evident even today in their daily
lives.
This program will give you an in-depth overview
of the history of
Islam in
Uzbekistan. You will learn about the many
contributions of Muslims in the growth of Islam in Uzbekistan. You will also
capture the spirit of the times while visiting the historical monuments and
learn the rich heritage during the visits with the local Muslims, Mosques and
Schools.
Please note that this is not a Deen-intensive
studies program. The focus is on history, culture and society, primarily relying
on the living experience of Muslims in Uzbekistan.
